Surgical Power Systems
Powered Surgical Tools
High-speed drills, oscillating bone saws, and the control platforms that drive them — engineered for orthopedics, neurosurgery, and surgical robotics.
Surgical Power Systems Built for Precision
Powered surgical tools are the workhorses of modern orthopedic, neurosurgical, and robotic procedures — and their performance depends on the drive systems behind them. Zlinemed designs and develops complete surgical power platforms: the handpiece, the motor drive, and the intelligent control system that ties them together.
Our Powered Surgical Tool Platforms
Orthopedic High-Speed Surgical Drill
An orthopedic power system that integrates burr and shaver functions in one platform. It supports high-speed output up to 120,000 RPM, with stepless speed control and intelligent accessory recognition for precise operation across neurosurgery, spine, and sports medicine procedures. The system is driven by the ZL-HSDRILL high-speed drill controller, which provides sensorless motor control, low-ripple output, and multi-layer safety protection.
Orthopedic Oscillating Bone Saw
A high-speed orthopedic oscillating saw system driven by a high-efficiency motor, delivering stable output and precise oscillation amplitude, with stepless speed control and intelligent accessory recognition. Its platform-based architecture supports multiple blade configurations and system customization, integrating multi-layer safety protection and real-time status monitoring for trauma and joint surgery applications. For robot-assisted procedures, the ZL-RobotSaw robotic oscillating saw extends this platform with EtherCAT connectivity and millimeter-level resection accuracy.
Why Device Makers Work With Us
- Platform architecture. Each tool is built on a modular control platform, so speed ranges, accessories, interfaces, and user interfaces can be tailored to your clinical application without redesigning the core drive.
- Robotics-ready. EtherCAT, CAN, and RS-485 interfaces with millisecond-level response are designed in from the start, not bolted on.
- Safety by design. Undervoltage, overcurrent, stall, and overtemperature protection with real-time fault reporting, isolated power architectures, and EMC/ESD-optimized layouts.
- Full-stack engineering. From industrial design to embedded software, our R&D services cover the complete development cycle for powered surgical instruments — including custom medical device development built around these platforms.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you supply complete surgical power tools or just controllers?
Both. Zlinemed develops complete powered surgical instruments such as the ZL-RobotSaw, as well as standalone control platforms like the ZL-HSDRILL that pair with mainstream high-speed motors including Maxon and Portescap.
Can these platforms be integrated with surgical robots?
Yes. The product line is designed with robotic integration in mind: the ZL-RobotSaw supports EtherCAT communication compatible with KUKA masters, and the ZL-HSDRILL controller offers a dual-channel synchronous architecture for robot-assisted platforms.
Do you offer OEM or custom development for powered surgical tools?
Yes. Our engineering team provides industrial, mechanical, circuit, and software design services to develop customized powered surgical tool systems around these platforms.
